24 May 2022. - Ambassador Noel Servigon, the Philippines’ Permanent Representative to ASEAN participated in the 9th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Joint Consultative Committee Meeting, which was held on 24 May 2022 at the ASEAN Secretariat to discuss cooperation between ASEAN and ROK.

Ambassador Servigon expressed his gratitude to the ROK government for its  assistance to ASEAN in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic.  He added that he looks forward to more cooperation activities between ASEAN and ROK in addressing other health challenges through capacity development programmes, exchange of best practices, and research and development.

Ambassador Servigon encouraged ROK to partner with ASEAN in biodiversity conservation and management through the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity in order to mitigate, if not prevent, infectious diseases that are zoonotic in nature.  He further expressed the Philippines’ appreciation to ROK for expanding its cooperation with ASEAN on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) through the Technical and Vocational Education and Training through ASEAN Mobility (TEAM).  The Philippines is the current Chair of the ATC.

The Meeting explored opportunities to further strengthen ASEAN-ROK cooperation in a number of areas, including disaster response, cultural exchange, public health, trade facilitation, human resources development, digital economy, narrowing the development gap within ASEAN and sustainable development.

The Meeting was attended by the members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR), officials from the ASEAN Secretariat and officials from the ROK’s Mission to ASEAN in Jakarta. (END)
