11 May 2022. - Ambassador/Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN Noel Servigon participated in the 7th ASEAN-Norway Joint Sectoral Cooperation Committee Meeting on 11 May 2022 at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.
Permanent Representative Servigon recognized Norway’s expertise in renewable energy and encouraged Norway to support ASEAN Member States in their efforts to transition to sustainable energy. He further encouraged Norway to continue cooperating with ASEAN on human rights, particularly on the rights of the child. Permanent Representative Servigon likewise suggested that Norway continue its engagement with the ASEAN Centre of Biodiversity, which is based in the Philippines, to further develop cooperation on biodiversity and the environment. He also proposed that Norway consider supporting ASEAN in Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
ASEAN Member States and Norway conveyed their respective priorities for further cooperation between ASEAN and Norway in areas such as trade and investment; supply chain resilience; digital economy, micro, small and medium enterprises; sustainable oceans; public health cooperation; climate change; smart cities; educational and cultural exchanges; and sustainable development, among others.
ASEAN Member States and Norway also exchanged views on the progress of the implementation of the 5-point consensus in Myanmar, and the situation in Ukraine, including its effects on the global economy.
The meeting is an opportunity for ASEAN and Norway to promote mutually beneficial cooperation and engage in dialogue on important regional and international issues. END.
