New Zealand Ambassador pays Courtesy Call

Ambassador Servigon engages in an animated conversation with New Zealand Ambassador to ASEAN Stuart Calman during the latter’s courtesy call held at the Philippine Mission to ASEAN Chancery.

 

10 May 2022, Jakarta - The newly-arrived Ambassador of New Zealand to ASEAN, Mr. Stuart Calman, paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Noel Servigon, the Philippines’ Permanent Representative to ASEAN at the Philippine Mission Chancery in Jakarta.

They exchanged views on issues of mutual interest to ASEAN and New Zealand including the situation in the Western Pacific, the recently-concluded elections in the Philippines, Timor-Leste’s application for membership in ASEAN, the situation in Myanmar and ASEAN-New Zealand cooperation activities.

Ambassador Calman emphasized that among New Zealand’s priorities is climate change cooperation with ASEAN.  Ambassador Servigon suggested for the New Zealand Ambassador to visit the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity in the Philippines and meet with its officials.

Ambassador Calman is a career public servant and diplomat who took up his role as New Zealand Ambassador to the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) on 7 April 2022.  Since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) in 2013, he has held leadership roles in the Pacific and Development Group of the Ministry. He has extensive experience in energy, climate change and development issues. He has previously been posted to Canberra and, most recently, as Deputy Head of Mission in Beijing, China. END.
