28 January 2014 – Philippine Permanent Representative to ASEAN, Ambassador Elizabeth P. Buensuceso met with the new ASEAN Foundation Executive Director, Ms. Elaine Tan, at the chancery of the Philippine Mission to ASEAN in Jakarta on 28 January 2014. Ambassador Buensuceso assured Ms. Tan of the Philippines' continued support for the ASEAN Foundation during her tenure. Both also discussed ways to enhance the ASEAN Foundation's capacity to contribute to ASEAN Community building by 2015, especially in promoting awareness of ASEAN among its stakeholders. The ASEAN Foundation was established by the ASEAN Leaders in December 1997 during ASEAN’s 30th Anniversary Commemorative Summit to help bring about shared prosperity and a sustainable future to all 10 ASEAN Member Countries. The objectives of the ASEAN Foundation are to promote greater awareness of ASEAN, and greater interaction among the peoples of ASEAN as well as their wider participation in ASEAN’s activities inter alia through human resources development that will enable them to realize their full potential and capacity to contribute to progress of ASEAN Member States as productive and responsible members of the society. The AF also endeavors to contribute to the evolution of a development cooperation strategy that promotes mutual assistance, equitable economic development, and the alleviation of poverty within the region.
