19 May 2021 – The Second ASEAN-China Short Video Contest was launched at a virtual ceremony held on 19 May 2021. The Contest is one of the activities jointly conducted by ASEAN and China to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations this year. The Philippines, as the current Country Coordinator of the ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations, is one of the Contest organizers.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Deputy Secretary General for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Kung Phoak highlighted that the “implementation of the second Short Video Contest exemplifies ASEAN-China strong commitments. I believe that the production of short films on human interest stories focusing on various social issues will encourage greater conversations on inclusiveness and generate empathy among our citizens especially against social discrimination and intolerance.”

Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Deng Xijun, in his remarks, stated that he “believe(s) the Contest this year will be a perfect place for [our peoples] to tell stories of how China and ASEAN have been supporting each other in this time of difficulty.”

Permanent Representative Noel Servigon, as coordinator in Jakarta for ASEAN-China Relations, remarked that the Second ASEAN-China Short Video Contest has the potential to “cultivate better understanding and deepen friendship, as envisioned by our leaders under the ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership Vision 2030”, and added that the Contest “is a fitting activity that encourages exchanges and cooperation between the peoples of ASEAN and China.”

Vice President Lu Cairong of the China International Publishing Group, Director General Yan Chengsheng of the National Radio and Television Administration, President Wu Hailong of the China Public Diplomacy Association, and Vice Mayor Qin Yongxin of the Wuxi Municipality, also delivered remarks at the launch ceremony.

With the overarching theme of “Friendship and Cooperation”, the Second ASEAN-China Short Video Contest will run from 19 May 2021 to 31 August 2021, and is open to any interested participant from ASEAN Member States and China. Each contest entrant may submit a maximum of three short videos, whose running time may be no longer than 5 minutes each. Suggested video topics highlighting ASEAN-China cooperation include “Battling COVID-19”, “Economic and trade cooperation and projects”, and “My favorite city (in ASEAN or China)”.

The first ASEAN-China Short Video Contest was held last year, and received a total of 36,500 short video entries from participants from ASEAN Member States and China.
