ASEAN Connectivity Forward

The Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR), acting as the ASEAN Connectivity Coordinating Committee (ACCC), met in Palembang, Indonesia on 2 July 2019. Ambassador Noel Servigon, Philippine Permanent Representative to ASEAN and ACCC member, and other ACCC members discussed the progress and challenges in the implementation of the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025 (MPAC 2025).

Ambassador Servigon remarked during the meeting about the significance of Palembang, where the Sri Vijayan Empire was based about a thousand years ago.  The Sri Vijaya was the first maritime trading polity in insular Southeast Asia and it was said that it reached certain islands in what is now known as the Visayas in the Philippines.

MPAC 2025 aims to further strengthen physical, institutional and people-to-people connectivity. It covers the following strategic areas: sustainable infrastructure, digital innovation, seamless logistics, regulatory excellence and people mobility.

The ACCC also discussed preparations for the ASEAN connectivity symposium and ACCC’s engagement with ASEAN dialogue partners in August in Bangkok.
