28 March 2019 - The ASEAN Women’s Circle (AWC) announced the selection of the officers of its 2019-2020 Executive Committee in a ceremony held at the ASEAN Secretariat. Third Secretary of the Philippine Mission and Country Representative of the Philippines to AWC-Jakarta, Ms. Angella Gilberto L. Alfafara, and Ms. Maria Cecilia P. Wenceslao, Cultural Attaché, are part of the 2019-2020 AWC Executive Committee. Ms. Alfafara also served as the event’s Master of Ceremonies.

During the event, outgoing AWC President Sari Percaya reflected on the highlights of last year’s AWC initiatives, which included outreach programs and fundraising activities, proceeds of which were donated to various charitable institutions in Jakarta, such as the Masyrakat Peduli Autis Indonesia (MPATI), a non-profit foundation that supports young people with autism. In 2018, the AWC also contributed funds towards aid relief in Lao PDR after a dam collapsed and donated hygiene kits for the rehabilitation projects undertaken by Caritas Manila to assist women and children affected by the conflict in Marawi.

The ASEAN Women’s Circle (AWC) is composed of spouses of diplomats and officials from ASEAN Member States. Its membership is also open to members of the Filipino community. The AWC aims to promote ASEAN solidarity and friendship through various socio-cultural and related activities. END.
