3 October 2018 - The Permanent Mission of the Philippines to ASEAN, Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) and Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to prepare for and organize an ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (ASEAN-IPR) event entitled Symposium on the Establishment of an ASEAN Women for Peace Registry.

The Registry calls for ASEAN Member States to take stock of their human capital and calls for them to nominate women experts who may be called to assist in peace and reconciliation initiatives of ASEAN Member States. Once the inaugural Registry is finalized, the identified women experts will take part in a Symposium, to be held in December 2018 in Cebu City to share their knowledge and experiences in gender mainstreaming, capacity-building, women’s achievements, and the promotion of respect for human dignity and human rights under the context of peace, reconciliation and conflict resolution, particularly in how to operationalize the ‘Joint Statement on Promoting Women, Peace and Security in ASEAN’ that was adopted last year during the 31st ASEAN Summit.

Ambassador Elizabeth P. Buensuceso, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN and Philippine representative to the ASEAN-IPR Governing Council, Secretary Jesus G. Dureza, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process and Dr. Maria Luz C. Vilches, Ateneo de Manila Vice President for Loyola Schools signed the MOA for their respective institutions. END.
