Ambassador Elizabeth P. Buensuceso, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN, met with Ambassadors of the European Union based in Jakarta on 20 April 2017 at the Philippine Permanent Mission in Jakarta to present a talk on “ASEAN and the Philippines’ Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2017”.

Ambassador Buensuceso briefed the EU Ambassadors on the various ASEAN-led bodies, processes and mechanisms, as well as important ASEAN initiatives such as the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity (MPAC 2025) and the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI). She also informed of the Philippines’ chairmanship priorities under the theme “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World”, namely: a people-oriented, people-centered ASEAN; peace and stability in the region; maritime security and cooperation; inclusive innovation-led growth; a resilient ASEAN; and ASEAN as a model of regionalism, a global player.

ASEAN and EU are celebrating 40 years of dialogue partnership in 2017, and are engaged in priority projects under the ASEAN-EU Plan of Action as well as other ASEAN-led mechanisms.
