Amb. Elizabeth P. Buensuceso, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN, attended the 6th Meeting of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Joint Council, which was held recently in Guangzhou, China.
Ambassador Buensuceso, the Philippine representative to the ACC Joint Council, will chair the ACC Joint Council in 2017.
During its meeting in Guangzhou, the Joint Council approved the ACC’s proposed 2017 budget of RMB10,150,984 (USD1,511,530.29) and noted its 19 flagship projects covering trade and investments, education, tourism, information and public relations, and general affairs and coordination. It also agreed to extend the validity of the current memorandum of understanding on the establishment of the ACC until a revised MOU, which is being finalized by ASEAN Member States and China, comes into force.
Ambassador Buensuceso expressed the hope that the ACC could develop projects in 2017 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN, the ASEAN-China Tourism Exchange Year, and the 20th Anniversary of the ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Cooperation. She also suggested that the ACC work with the ASEAN Committee Beijing and the ACC Joint Executive Board (JEB), which is composed of Embassies of all ASEAN Member States in Beijing and representatives from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, on the following projects: Iconic Landmark Lighting, ASEAN-China Street Festival, and a joint project with the ASEAN-Korea Centre and the ASEAN-Japan Centre to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the APT.
