The Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) to ASEAN met with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) on 8 April 2016 at the ASEAN Secretariat during the AICHR’s 21st meeting in Jakarta.
The CPR-AICHR meeting discussed the role of the CPR in relation to the approval of projects within the scope of the ASEAN SOP on project appraisal and approval process, as well as on cross-pillar, cross-sectoral coordination on human rights.
The AICHR has eight (8) new representatives, including the Philippines’ Representative Loretta Ann Rosales.
Amb. Elizabeth P. Buensuceso expressed support for AICHR’s initiatives including the promotion and protection of the rights of vulnerable groups. The CPR expressed gratitude and support for the establishment of a dedicated AICHR unit under the ASEAN Political Security Department of the ASEAN Secretariat.
Amb. Buensuceso further underlined that the CPR welcomes closer coordination with the AICHR, especially in 2017 when ASEAN celebrates its 50th founding anniversary under the Philippine chairmanship.
