AirAsia Foundation (AAF) was formally accredited as an Entity Associated with ASEAN under Annex 2 of the ASEAN Charter, by the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) during their meeting at the 26th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia in April 2015. The AAF is the philantrophic arm of the Air Asia Group which aims at sharing its values of entrepreneurship, equal opportunity and innovation across ASEAN. It is headquartered in Malaysia and has offices in the Philippines and Indonesia. Atty Katrina Legarda of the Philippines serves as the Current Chairperson of the Foundation.
The Philippines was among ASEAN Member States (AMS) which championed the accreditation of the AAF. Philippine Permanent Representative to ASEAN Ambassador Elizabeth P. Buensuceso said that the accreditation of AAF provides many advantages to ASEAN, including enhancing their ability to contribute to a caring and sharing ASEAN community through their various charitable and socially responsible programs and activities. They can also help uplift the ASEAN brand among consumers.
After receiving its accreditation, the AAF briefed the CPR on its current activities, which include support for social enterprises as well as disaster response efforts in the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. The AAF will support ASEAN’s Community-building efforts primarily by promoting innovation and social enterprise in the region.
Ambassador Buensuceso congratulated Atty. Legarda on the accreditation of the Air Asia Foundation and wished it more success in changing the lives of those who have less in life. - END
