19 November 2014 – Newly arrived US Ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) H.E. Nina Hachigian paid a courtesy call on Philippine Permanent Representative to ASEAN Elizabeth P. Buensuceso at the chancery of the Philippine Mission to ASEAN. The two lady envoys discussed issues which their two countries accord high priority on, including the South China Sea, Maritime Cooperation, Counter-Terrorism, Combating Transnational Crime, Rule of Law, Good Governance, Humanitarian Assistance, Disaster Relief, and People to People exchanges. They expressed their mutual commitment to partner in the advancement of these advocacies. Ambassador Hachigian was formerly a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress and has published many reports on the United States policy towards Asia. She also worked as senior political scientist at the RAND Corporation and served as the director of the RAND Center for Asia Pacific Policy for four years. From 1998 to 1999, she was on the staff of the National Security Council in the White House. She was sworn in as US Ambassador to ASEAN on September 19, 2014.
