8 August 2018 – ASEAN Secretary-General Dato Lim Jock Hoi, joined by the Foreign Minister of Indonesia, Retno Marsudi, led the celebration of the 51st Anniversary of ASEAN in a ceremony held at the ASEAN Secretariat. The ceremony also launched the website of the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (ASEAN-IPR) and a publication entitled “Strengthening Convergences for International Humanitarian Action.” The publication chronicles the results and recommendations of the Philippine-led ASEAN-IPR Symposium of the same name held in October 2017 in Manila, Philippines.

 

Ambassador Elizabeth P. Buensuceso, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN and co-organizer of the Symposium, presented the ASEAN Secretary-General with a copy of the publication. The Symposium was organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). It was supported by the governments of Norway and Switzerland.
