6 June 2022. - Ambassador/Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN Noel Servigon participated in the meeting between the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN and Australia on 6 June 2022 at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta to exchange ideas on further advancing ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Permanent Representative Servigon congratulated Australia for the successful conclusion of its national elections and welcomed the new Foreign Minister of Australia, Penny Wong. He looked forward to further advancing cooperation between ASEAN and Australia on public health cooperation, and the prevention of new and emerging diseases, through ASEAN centres such as the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity, which is based in the Philippines.

Foreign Minister Wong reaffirmed Australia’s strong commitment to ASEAN Centrality and the ASEAN-led regional architecture, as well as its support for the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific. She also conveyed that the new government of Australia will be more ambitious in partnering with other countries to address climate change. Foreign Minister Wong also recognized the importance of continued public health and economic cooperation, among others. END.
