12 May 2022. - Ambassador Noel Servigon, the Philippines’ Permanent Representative to ASEAN participated in the 2nd ASEAN-France Development Partnership Committee Meeting which was held virtually to discuss cooperation between ASEAN and France.
Ambassador Servigon expressed his gratitude to the French government for the assistance extended to the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Rai (Odette) in December 2021. He also expressed his appreciation for France’s project, “One Health in Practice in Southeast Asia,” which aims to support the study of emerging diseases by combining health and biodiversity issues. He urged France to explore more cooperation activities with the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity. He added that the Philippines welcomes France’s shared interests with ASEAN in promoting cooperation in areas outlined in ASEAN’s Indo-Pacific Outlook (AOIP) including maritime cooperation.
The Meeting explored opportunities to further strengthen ASEAN-France cooperation in a number of areas, including disaster response, cultural exchange, public health, trade, human resources development, digital economy and counter-terrorism.
The Meeting resolved to continue negotiations in order to finalize the ASEAN-France Practical Cooperation Areas which will serve as a guiding document for engagement and cooperation between ASEAN and France.
The Meeting was attended by the members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR), officials from the ASEAN Secretariat, officials from French Embassy in Jakarta and representatives of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. (END)
